Welcome to my world of whimsy
Jamila Hume is a painter, creative entrepreneur, workshop and retreat host and dog lover. She is best known for her contemporary take on florals. Using her palette knife she sculpts oil paint in to blousy bouquets and rambling cottage gardenscapes. Jamila collaborates with galleries and private collectors, creating works that bring delight to hearts and spaces. Her works are found among beautiful homes in the UK, Europe, Canada, America, Australia, and Sri Lanka. She shares her love of painting, nature, animals and travel via her Instagram @jamilahume_art where you will likely see photos of wildflowers, her atelier, and her Labradors visiting neighbouring cows and horses.
Born in England to a Moroccan father and British mother, Jamila moved with her family as a young child to Vancouver, Canada where she spent her childhood. She pursued a BA and MA in cultural anthropology and has worked and lived in many areas of the world. In 2016 at 44 years of age she decided to pursue her childhood dream of painting. She relocated part time to Florence, Italy and spent 18 months painting, touring galleries and museums, eating, hiking the Tuscan hills and shopping at local markets. Jamila is hugely passionate and curious about life and living life well, about expanding in to the fullest expression of herself as an artist and human being. Along these lines, she is committed to inspiring her engaged community to create and nurture themselves through nature, creative endeavours, and friendships.
Jamila currently resides in Samford Valley, outside of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia where she works full-time in her studio at the Lifestyle Centre, off Mount Glorious road, Samford Valley. You are welcome to visit her atelier, chat about painting, or admire the view from her studio deck. You will most likely find her in paint splattered trousers, listening to an eclectic playlist with her labradors snoring at her feet.
